A Love of Wisdom

The origin of the Greek word ‘philosophy’ can be translated as, ‘a love of wisdom’. It is concerned with inquiring into matters such as the nature of existence and virtue.
In eastern meditative traditions the theory of non-duality or emptiness concerns the complete abandonment of fixing on to any one viewpoint as opposed to another. It points to seeing beyond critical or ‘dualistic’ thinking to achieve a mind empty of attachment to concepts, allowing a powerful sense of unconditional love to emerge as the true foundation of reality.
Here are some poems written by Andrew Stratton which are influenced by pursuing this train of thought. Andrew is currently compiling his poems into a book.
Freeze Frame Life
Imagine you could freeze frame life to take a breath, just press the pause button for a while to have a break from battling with this or that.
You know, just like walking out of a room and on to a balcony to see a great view, a stunning view. And it stops.
Life is frozen and you're taking time out to just admire the view. Just ten minutes out of it, just paused for long enough so that you can simply be with what is, always there, silently.
Imagine taking the remote control and pressing that pause button. It's a golden opportunity for you to see clearly, to take time out from battling with life.
Freeze frame life when you need to.
Grow Into Yourself
When I stop striving to change myself,
But instead choose to grow into myself,
I am able to sink into my body,
Feel this life,
And forgive.
When I stop condemning my anger or greedy obsessions,
But instead experience their power with openness,
Somehow they lose their ability to keep me bound,
And they no longer get stuck as frustration,
Because I became aware.
When I open my heart without exception,
Life's difficulties cease to threaten,
And I find I no longer care about anything but peace and harmony.
Grow into yourself and be free.
He Defies Belief
Wakefulness has nothing to do with the content of a thought,
It's the way you relate to all those movements of mind that allows freedom of expression.
A belief is formed,
'I am something or other,'
Usually at the extreme of appraisal or disapproval,
Can you float between these two, without judgment?
Can you touch upon a feeling of uselessness, without buying into it?
Or resist getting carried away by self-aggrandisement?
Equanimity is realising that it's all God and no concepts can touch Him.
He just tingles on your skin,
And all around His breath-taking presence,
Is wrestled with.
Unless you choose to stop choosing,
And renounce all beliefs.
For He defies belief.
